Keeping Your Eyes Healthy
The best thing you can do for your eyes is to be proactive. While there is no magic remedy for vision loss, there is a lot you can do to protect your eyes, starting with living well. We cannot control genetics. We can control lifestyle, and our overall health does affect our vision. While eating carrots might be more a matter of folklore, a healthy diet does play a role – as does avoiding overexposure to sun, exercising regularly, and taking care of your body.
It all matters. Did you know, for example that people with healthier hearts are at lower risk of macular degeneration? That’s right. So, first and foremost, we encourage our patients to live well.
Early detection opens up the door to better long term vision with the ability to stabilize vision in many cases. This really comes into play with elderly patients and Macular Degeneration and diabetics with Diabetic Retinopathy.
