Magdalena "Maggie" Shuler, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Magdalena "Maggie" Shuler originally wanted to become an engineer. She certainly had the mindset (and still does), but she also had a heart for helping people. Oddly enough, it was her peers who opened her eyes to the possibility of becoming a doctor. So, in a way, she "lucked" into the field of medicine, but it was nothing but hard work that pulled her through with flying colors.

In medical school, Dr. Shuler instantly loved the ins and outs of retina care, especially the way it combined the clinical and surgical aspects of ophthalmology. Today, she has earned a reputation for performing complex surgical procedures, including recurrent retinal detachments and diabetic retinal detachments. She also enjoys pediatric retina care and finds it amazing to help preserve a child’s sight for life.

Dr. Shuler treats patients like family and is quick to point out her strong bond with patients whom she gets to know over a lifetime of care.
