Dr. George B. Peters III, M.D. is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Peters was born and raised in Eastern Maine. He graduated from Boston University’s Biomedical Engineering Program with high honors. Once he earned his graduate degree in Maine, he attended medical school in Vermont, completed his internship in the UK and in Baltimore, MD and his ophthalmology residency in New York, where he was also appointed Chief Resident. 

Passionate Educator

Dr. Peters has a unique subspecialty training, in addition to general ophthalmology treatments. He had additional internships in ocular immunology and uveitis at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and then a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Edinburgh. Since completing his training, Dr. Peters served on the full-time faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the part-time faculty at multiple medical schools in Massachusetts and New York. Dr. Peters has attended, presented, moderated, and has been an invited panelist at multiple meetings worldwide in North and South America, Asia and Europe. His research includes intravitreal drug administration, new therapies for uveitis, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.


In addition to presenting research on most of them, he has enjoyed adventure travel to all of the world’s continents. Dr. Peters has multiple publications which can be found in all three major American ophthalmology journals, the British Journal of Ophthalmology and in Retina. Dr. Peters has many professional awards and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as a member of every discipline’s honor society in which he has a degree.

Dr. Peters’ extensive training and research ultimately is to care for his patients. He understands that each patient, their case and procedure is to be specialized to the patient. He desires to help patients experience improvement with their vision and enjoy their lives.
