Inspired to Help People

“I became inspired to become a doctor because I wanted to help people. My mother had a very rare eye problem diagnosed at the Emory Eye Center when I was working on my PhD in genetics and molecular biology. When I returned to medical school for the clinical portion of my MD/PhD, I rotated in ophthalmology and fell in love with the specialty—realizing its tremendous potential for helping patients. God granted me with excellent surgical skills and acumen. I’m thrilled to be able to use that to help save patients’ vision.”

Personal Treatment

“I take the time to talk to my patients and their families. Because many retina patients have chronic conditions that require ongoing treatment, I get to really know my patients and think of them like family. We get to rejoice in their ups and pray with them during their downs, but we always treat patients as we would want our family member treated.”

A Passion for Pediatrics

“Pediatric Retina has always been a special interest to me. Not many retina doctors in the country specialize in caring for this vulnerable portion of our society. While I was in my fellowship at the Wills Eye Hospital, I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Bill Tasman and Dr. Arch McNamara. Since we were a tertiary care referral hospital for the Northeast, we saw and took care of many surgical pediatric patients. While in private practice, I am still active in caring for these patients by screening and treating for retinopathy of prematurity at our local NICU.”

Dedication to Saving Sight

“Complex retinal detachments and diabetic retinal detachments are still an unfortunate occurrence in every retina practice. I have special interest in working to salvage whatever vision we can from these very complex cases.”

Family First

“I am very proud of my family, my husband Dr. Bud Shuler and my two daughters. This is my most meaningful accomplishment.”
